Electricians Among the UK's Most In-Demand Female Tradespeople
Despite making up only a small proportion of the UK's electrical workforce, female electricians are becoming increasingly sought after by homeowners and businesses.
A new study has found that female electricians are now the second most in-demand female trade in the UK, highlighting both a growing opportunity for women entering the profession and the continuing need for more skilled electricians overall.
According to research published by MoneySuperMarket and reported by Electrical Times, there were approximately 4,200 UK searches over the past year for female electricians, placing the trade behind only female painters and decorators. Interestingly, while female electricians rank highly in the UK, they do not appear in the global top ten, suggesting demand is particularly strong here.
Why Is Demand Increasing?
The research suggests several factors may be driving this trend. More women than ever are buying homes independently, and many homeowners simply prefer having the option to choose a female tradesperson when inviting someone into their property. Previous research has also found that many customers believe female tradespeople are more respectful of their homes and want to support greater diversity within traditionally male-dominated industries.
At the same time, social media is helping to challenge outdated stereotypes. Female electricians are increasingly sharing their work on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, inspiring others to consider electrical careers and demonstrating the wide range of opportunities available across domestic, commercial and industrial sectors.
